John Shelley (MP)
John Shelley was a British politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP). He was a Whig politician who represented Rye in the Parliament of Great Britain and later the Parliament of the United Kingdom. He sat in the House of Commons between 1790 and 1806.
Shelley was the son of Sir John Shelley, 5th Baronet of Michelgrove, and Wilhelmina Newnham. He inherited the baronetcy upon his father's death in 1799, becoming the 6th Baronet. He was married to Frances Winckley. His political activity appears to have been generally aligned with the Whig party's interests and those of his family. Further detailed biographical information regarding his activities in Parliament is somewhat limited in readily available sources, but standard parliamentary records for the period confirm his representation of Rye. He died in 1812.
