Henry Grace (cricketer)
Henry Grace (born 18 March 1833, died 22 December 1895) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for several teams, most notably Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. He was a member of the famous Grace cricketing family, being the father of W. G. Grace, E. M. Grace, and G. F. Grace, all prominent cricketers themselves.
A right-handed batsman and right-arm slow roundarm bowler, Henry Grace was not as accomplished as his sons but was nonetheless a capable cricketer in his own right. He played occasionally for Gloucestershire between 1848 and 1868. He was instrumental in encouraging his sons' interest in cricket and provided coaching and support throughout their careers.
Grace was also a physician, qualifying as a doctor and practising in Downend, near Bristol. He combined his medical practice with his cricketing interests and played a significant role in the development of cricket in the West Country. His dedication to both medicine and sport established a strong family tradition which his sons continued. He died in Downend at the age of 62.
