William Farren (actor, born 1825)

William Farren (1825–1908) was a British actor, known primarily for his portrayals of elderly gentlemen and character roles. He was the son of William Farren (1786–1861), a renowned actor of his time, thus continuing a family theatrical tradition.

Farren was born in London on August 3, 1825. He made his stage debut in Dublin, Ireland, in 1847. He rapidly developed a reputation for his skill in embodying older characters, often playing roles much older than his actual age. His performances were characterized by their meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of the nuances of human behavior.

He joined the company of the Olympic Theatre in London under the management of Alfred Wigan and later appeared in numerous productions throughout his career, including at the Haymarket Theatre, the Vaudeville Theatre, and other prominent venues. Farren became particularly associated with certain roles, which he played repeatedly throughout his career, gaining considerable acclaim for his interpretations.
