Tanafjord

The Tanafjord (Northern Sami: Deatnuvuotna, Kven: Tenovuono, Norwegian: Tanafjorden) is a fjord located in Finnmark county, Norway. It is a large fjord that cuts into the Nordkinn Peninsula, separating the municipalities of Tana and Gamvik. The fjord is approximately 65 kilometers (40 mi) long and up to 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) wide.

The Tana River, one of Norway's largest and most important salmon rivers, empties into the head of the Tanafjord. Several smaller rivers and streams also contribute to the fjord's freshwater input.

The landscape surrounding the Tanafjord is characterized by rugged coastline, steep cliffs, and sparse vegetation. Small settlements and fishing villages dot the shoreline. The area is sparsely populated, with the majority of residents engaged in fishing, farming, and tourism.

Transportation around the Tanafjord relies primarily on roads and ferries. The Norwegian County Road 98 runs along parts of the fjord's western side.

The fjord is known for its rich fishing grounds and supports a diverse marine ecosystem. Birdlife is also abundant in the area, particularly during the migratory seasons.
