Lifesigns (band)
Lifesigns are a British progressive rock band formed in 2013 by keyboardist John Young. The band's music is characterized by its melodic complexity, instrumental virtuosity, and lyrical themes often exploring philosophical and existential concepts.
History:
Lifesigns emerged from the dissolution of The John Young Band. John Young, seeking a new musical direction, recruited drummer Martin Beedle and guitarist Niko Tsonev to form the core of Lifesigns. Their debut album, simply titled "Lifesigns," was released in 2013 and received positive reviews within the progressive rock community.
The band underwent a lineup change prior to their second album, "Cardington," released in 2017. Dave Bainbridge replaced Niko Tsonev on guitar, and Jon Poole joined on bass. "Cardington" further solidified Lifesigns' reputation for sophisticated songwriting and instrumental prowess.
In 2021, Lifesigns released their third studio album, "Altitude," featuring the lineup of John Young, Dave Bainbridge, Jon Poole, and drummer Zoltán Csörsz Jr., who replaced Martin Beedle.
Musical Style:
Lifesigns' music blends elements of classic progressive rock with contemporary influences. Key characteristics include:
- Complex Arrangements: Intricate instrumental passages, shifting time signatures, and dynamic contrasts are hallmarks of their sound.
- Melodic Focus: Despite the complexity, their music retains a strong melodic sensibility.
- Instrumental Virtuosity: All members of the band are highly skilled musicians, contributing to the band's technical proficiency.
- Lyrical Themes: Their lyrics often explore philosophical themes, personal reflections, and observations on society.
