Racine station (CTA Metropolitan Main Line)

Racine station is a defunct elevated rapid transit station on the Chicago Transit Authority's (CTA) Metropolitan Main Line, which is now part of the Blue Line. Located at Racine Avenue and Congress Parkway in the Near West Side neighborhood of Chicago, it served as a local station on the Garfield Park branch.

The station opened on November 6, 1895, as part of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad's initial route. Its original purpose was to serve the densely populated residential and industrial area. The station was closed on June 22, 1958, when the Garfield Park branch was replaced by the Congress Line, built in the median of the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). This replacement was undertaken as part of a larger city planning initiative to modernize the public transportation infrastructure and reduce congestion on surface streets.

The station's infrastructure was subsequently demolished. No physical remnants of the station remain at the location today. Passengers wishing to access the area are now served by nearby bus routes and the Illinois Medical District station on the Blue Line, which is located further west along the Eisenhower Expressway. The closure of Racine station reflects a significant shift in transportation planning and urban development within the city of Chicago during the mid-20th century.
