Joe Borg
Joe Borg is a Maltese politician and diplomat. He served as the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs from 2004 to 2010.
Born in Valletta, Malta, Borg graduated as a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) from the University of Malta. Prior to his role in the European Commission, he held several ministerial positions in the Maltese government, including Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Justice and Home Affairs.
As European Commissioner, Borg was responsible for the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the development of an integrated maritime policy for the European Union. He focused on sustainable fishing practices, combating illegal fishing, and promoting the blue economy.
Following his tenure as Commissioner, Borg has continued to be involved in policy discussions related to maritime affairs and European integration. He remains a commentator on Maltese and European politics.
