Utaban
Utaban (ウタばん) was a Japanese music variety show that aired on TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) from October 1996 to March 2010. It was primarily hosted by Tunnels (Noritake Kinashi and Takaaki Ishibashi) and Atsuko Asano.
The show was known for its comedic and often irreverent interviews with popular Japanese musical artists and groups, covering a wide range of genres from J-pop to rock. A key feature of Utaban was the hosts' ability to create a relaxed and playful atmosphere, often engaging in humorous banter and skits with the guests, setting it apart from more formal music programs. While music performances were a part of the show, the emphasis was often on the comedic interaction between the hosts and the guests.
Utaban's long run made it a popular and influential program in Japanese television. Its cancellation marked the end of an era for TBS music variety shows, although similar concepts have been adopted by other programs. It remains a significant reference point for understanding Japanese music television of the late 1990s and 2000s.
