Galilee (horse)

Galilee was an American Thoroughbred racehorse foaled in 1916. Bred and owned by Willis Sharpe Kilmer's Court Manor Stud, he was sired by Superman, out of the mare War Woman. He is best known for winning the 1919 Kentucky Derby.

Galilee's racing career was relatively short. His most significant victory came in the Kentucky Derby, where he was ridden by jockey Earl Sande. He defeated favored Eternal, setting a new Derby record time of 2:11 4/5 for the 1 1/4 mile distance. This record stood until 1930.

Following his Kentucky Derby win, Galilee was considered a top contender for the remaining Triple Crown races, but his performance declined. He finished unplaced in the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.

After his racing career concluded, Galilee was retired to stud. While he sired some winners, he did not achieve significant success as a stallion. He died in 1936.
