Senaspis

Senaspis is a genus of extinct trilobites belonging to the order Asaphida. These marine arthropods existed during the Ordovician period, specifically the Middle Ordovician. Fossils of Senaspis have been found in North America, providing valuable insights into the paleogeography and biodiversity of that era.

Senaspis is characterized by its relatively flat, broad cephalon (head shield) and pygidium (tail shield). The glabella (central lobe of the cephalon) is typically poorly defined or absent. The overall body plan is indicative of a benthic lifestyle, suggesting that Senaspis crawled or burrowed in the sediment on the seafloor.

The classification of Senaspis within the Asaphida order is based on its morphological features, particularly the structure of its cephalon and pygidium, as well as the number and arrangement of its thoracic segments. Further research and discovery of new fossil specimens contribute to a more complete understanding of the evolutionary relationships within this genus and its broader context within the trilobite lineage.
