Jim Roth (musician)
Jim Roth is an American musician, best known as the guitarist for the indie rock band Built to Spill. He joined Built to Spill in 1996, solidifying the band's lineup with Doug Martsch and Brett Netson. Roth's guitar work is characterized by intricate, often dissonant, melodies and a distinctive, heavily effected tone.
Prior to joining Built to Spill, Roth played in various bands in the Boise, Idaho music scene. His involvement with Built to Spill has been integral to the band's signature sound, contributing significantly to albums such as Perfect From Now On (1997), Keep It Like a Secret (1999), Ancient Melodies of the Future (2001), and You in Reverse (2006), among others.
Beyond Built to Spill, Roth has also been involved in other musical projects and collaborations, though details on these are less widely documented. He continues to tour and record with Built to Spill as of 2023.
