Gill (lunar crater)

Gill is a lunar impact crater located in the rugged highlands near the Moon's southeastern limb. It lies to the south-southeast of the prominent crater Tycho and to the northeast of the crater Hainzel. Due to its location, Gill appears significantly foreshortened when viewed from Earth.

The crater is characterized by a somewhat irregular outer rim that has been heavily eroded by subsequent impacts. Several small craterlets lie along the rim, particularly on the western side. The interior floor is relatively flat, but marked by a few tiny craterlets. A small, unnamed crater cuts into the southeastern rim of Gill.

Gill is of Nectarian age. The features surrounding Gill suggest a history of heavy bombardment, and the overall appearance of the crater reflects its advanced age and the effects of space weathering. It is not particularly notable for any unique albedo features or exceptional morphology.
