Peter Mark (conductor)
Peter Mark (born 1940) is a Canadian conductor. He is best known for his long tenure as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Pacific Opera Victoria (POV), a company he founded in 1979.
Mark studied piano and conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and later at the Vienna Academy of Music. Before founding POV, he held positions with the Vancouver Opera, the Edmonton Opera, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.
Under Mark's leadership, Pacific Opera Victoria developed a reputation for producing high-quality opera performances with a focus on Canadian talent. He is known for his commitment to introducing new audiences to opera and for championing works by Canadian composers. He retired from POV in 2016.
