The Chrysanthemums (band)
The Chrysanthemums were a British indie pop band active primarily in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Formed in Reading, England, the band's core members included Itchy (vocals), Mark Orchard (guitar), and Alan Jenkins (keyboards).
The band's music was characterized by its quirky, melodic sound, often featuring witty lyrics and unconventional song structures. They were associated with the "shambling" indie pop scene of the era, but possessed a distinct and slightly more experimental edge.
The Chrysanthemums released several singles and EPs on independent labels, including the influential "What A Mess" single. They also released two studio albums: Oceansize (1992) and Death by Television (1994). While they never achieved mainstream success, The Chrysanthemums developed a dedicated cult following, particularly within the UK indie music scene.
Following the release of Death by Television, the band eventually dissolved. Members pursued other musical projects and careers. Their music remains appreciated for its originality and its contribution to the indie pop landscape of the early 1990s.
