George Johnson (musician)
George Johnson (born c. 1953) is an American R&B and funk musician, best known as a guitarist and vocalist for the Brothers Johnson. He co-founded the band with his brother Louis Johnson (bass).
Johnson's distinctive guitar style, often featuring a warm, overdriven tone and melodic phrasing, was a key element of the Brothers Johnson's signature sound. He co-wrote and sang lead vocals on several of their hit songs, including "Strawberry Letter 23," which reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart. He also contributed to the writing of other notable songs like "I'll Be Good to You."
Following the Brothers Johnson's initial success in the 1970s, George Johnson pursued a solo career, releasing albums and continuing to perform. He has also worked as a session musician and collaborated with other artists. The Brothers Johnson reunited periodically for tours and recordings.
