2. Cyberpunk Setting Terminology: More broadly, "Netrunner" is a term used in cyberpunk fiction, particularly within the Cyberpunk 2020 universe and derivative works, to describe individuals skilled in navigating and manipulating computer networks, often illegally. These characters are typically hackers who infiltrate corporate systems, steal data, and engage in electronic warfare. The term evokes a sense of daring and technological expertise, often involving the use of specialized software and hardware to bypass security measures.

3. Null Signal Games' Project NISEI: Following the discontinuation of Android: Netrunner by Fantasy Flight Games, a fan-led organization named Null Signal Games (formerly Project NISEI) has continued to develop and support a similar card game under new titles, often referred to by fans as "fan-made Netrunner." Due to trademark concerns, they cannot directly use the "Netrunner" name, but their games aim to preserve the gameplay experience and thematic elements of the original Android: Netrunner.
