Tonic Sol-fa (a cappella group)
Tonic Sol-fa is a male a cappella group based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formed in 1993, the group is known for its arrangements of both popular songs and original compositions. Their style often blends contemporary pop, rock, and jazz influences.
Tonic Sol-fa has released numerous albums, and they tour extensively throughout the United States. They have won multiple Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARAs). The group's name references the Tonic Sol-fa system, a method of sight-reading music that originated in the 19th century, although their music is not strictly limited to arrangements using that system.
The core members of Tonic Sol-fa have varied over the years, but they generally consist of four to five vocalists, covering bass, baritone, tenor, and vocal percussion (beatboxing). Their performances often feature humor and audience interaction. They are particularly known for their holiday concerts and albums.
