SkyTerra was originally known as Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV). The company underwent a rebranding to SkyTerra in 2010, reflecting a strategic shift and new focus. It invested heavily in a next-generation satellite infrastructure designed to offer enhanced mobile broadband services.

Technology:

SkyTerra utilized a large, powerful geostationary satellite (SkyTerra 1) to provide its services. This satellite, built by Boeing, featured a large unfurlable antenna designed for efficient spectrum utilization and wide coverage. The company aimed to integrate satellite and terrestrial networks to create a seamless user experience. The envisioned integrated network included the use of ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) stations.

Services:
