Oliver S. Powell (banker)
Oliver S. Powell (1903-1975) was an American economist and banker who served on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 1952 to 1963. He was appointed by President Harry S. Truman.
Powell was born in Wisconsin and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University. Prior to his appointment to the Federal Reserve, he held various positions in the financial sector, including serving as the First Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
During his time on the Federal Reserve Board, Powell played a key role in monetary policy decision-making. He contributed to discussions and policies aimed at managing inflation and promoting economic stability. His expertise was particularly valuable during a period of significant economic change and development in the United States.
