Erlauf (river)

The Erlauf is a river in Lower Austria, Austria. It is a right tributary of the Danube.

Originating in the southwestern part of Lower Austria, near the border with Styria, the Erlauf flows generally northwards. Its source is near the Gemeindealpe, a mountain in the Göstling Alps. It passes through or near several towns and villages, including Scheibbs, Purgstall an der Erlauf, Wieselburg, and Pöchlarn.

The Erlauf is approximately 70 kilometers (43 miles) long. It has a drainage basin of roughly 740 square kilometers (290 square miles).

The river has historically been used for water power, particularly for powering mills and other industrial processes. Today, it is also used for recreational activities like fishing and kayaking. The Erlauf is known for its scenic valley and the surrounding forested landscapes. The Erlauf valley is a popular tourist destination.
