Lullism

Lullism is a neologism that describes the philosophical or intellectual stance of consciously and deliberately choosing to remain in a state of ignorance, blissful unawareness, or simplistic understanding of complex issues. It often manifests as a rejection of challenging information, critical thinking, or in-depth analysis in favor of maintaining a comfortable and uncomplicated worldview.

A key characteristic of Lullism is an active resistance to engaging with ideas or perspectives that might disrupt the individual's preferred narrative or sense of stability. This resistance can be fueled by a desire to avoid cognitive dissonance, maintain social harmony within a specific group, or simply alleviate the discomfort of grappling with difficult or ambiguous concepts.

Lullism differs from simple ignorance or lack of knowledge in that it involves a deliberate and often willful rejection of opportunities to learn and understand. It is not necessarily malicious but can have negative consequences, both for the individual practicing it and for society as a whole, by hindering progress, promoting misinformation, and fostering polarization.

The term is often used critically to describe individuals or groups who appear to be deliberately avoiding complex truths or engaging in wishful thinking to avoid confronting unpleasant realities. There is no established school of thought or formal philosophy associated with Lullism; it is primarily used as a descriptive term for a specific behavioral or attitudinal pattern.
