MNsure
MNsure is the health insurance marketplace for the state of Minnesota, established under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). It is a state-run exchange where individuals and families can compare health insurance plans, determine their eligibility for financial assistance, and enroll in coverage. MNsure also provides a pathway for small businesses to offer health insurance to their employees.
The primary goal of MNsure is to increase access to affordable health insurance coverage for Minnesotans. It allows individuals to see if they qualify for tax credits and cost-sharing reductions that can lower their monthly premiums and out-of-pocket healthcare costs. These subsidies are available to those who meet certain income requirements.
MNsure facilitates enrollment during the annual open enrollment period, typically in the fall. It also provides special enrollment periods for individuals and families who experience qualifying life events, such as losing other health coverage, getting married, or having a baby.
Beyond enrollment, MNsure also serves as a resource for information about health insurance and healthcare in Minnesota. The MNsure website provides details on various health insurance plans, coverage options, and related topics. It also offers access to customer service representatives who can answer questions and provide assistance.
The MNsure program is overseen by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, and it operates independently of the federal government's health insurance marketplace, HealthCare.gov.
