Andrew Harrison (scientist)
Andrew Harrison is a British chemist and materials scientist, renowned for his work in solid-state chemistry and the application of computational methods to understand the structure and properties of materials. He has made significant contributions to the field of inorganic chemistry, particularly in the areas of crystal structure prediction, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and the development of new functional materials.
Harrison obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge. He subsequently held academic positions at the University of Edinburgh before moving to the University of Cambridge, where he served as Head of the Department of Chemistry. His research group focuses on the investigation of complex materials using a combination of experimental and theoretical techniques.
Harrison's work has been recognized through numerous awards and honors. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and has served on various national and international committees related to science and education. His research has had a significant impact on our understanding of the relationship between structure and properties in solid-state materials, leading to the design and synthesis of novel materials with tailored functionalities. Key areas of focus include energy materials, catalysts, and materials for information technology.
