Just Friends (TV series)

Just Friends is a short-lived American sitcom that aired on ABC as part of its 1979 fall lineup. The series starred Georgia Engel as Amy and Janis Paige as her widowed mother, Susan Hughes.

The premise revolved around Amy, a quirky and somewhat naive young woman, moving back home to live with her mother after her apartment building burns down. Susan, a vibrant and independent woman, works as a real estate agent and often provides a more grounded perspective than her daughter.

The humor stemmed from the generational differences between Amy and Susan, their contrasting personalities, and the various situations they encountered in their personal and professional lives. Other regular characters included Susan's friend and colleague, Milt, played by Richard Stahl, and Leonard, Amy's often hapless boyfriend, played by John Rubinstein.

Despite a promising concept and a talented cast, Just Friends struggled in the ratings. ABC cancelled the show after only three episodes had aired. The remaining episodes were never broadcast in the United States. Due to its brief run, Just Friends remains a relatively obscure entry in the history of American television sitcoms.
