USS Cole (DD-155)

The USS Cole (DD-155) was a Wickes-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War II. Named after Edward Baltrop Cole, a United States Marine who died in World War I, the Cole was commissioned in 1919 and served primarily in the Atlantic.

During World War II, the Cole participated in convoy escort duty, protecting merchant ships from German U-boats. She also engaged in anti-submarine warfare. In 1942, the Cole was involved in the sinking of the German submarine U-701.

The USS Cole was decommissioned in 1945 after the end of World War II and was later scrapped. While not as famous as her namesake ship attacked in Yemen in 2000, the Cole (DD-155) represents a crucial period of naval history and served with distinction during wartime.
