George Wilkinson (water polo)
George Wilkinson (1879 – 1946) was a British water polo player who competed in the 1900, 1908 and 1912 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the British water polo teams, winning three gold medals.
Wilkinson was born in Gorton, Manchester. He was a key member of the Osborne Swimming Club, a dominant force in British water polo during his era.
In 1900, at the Paris Olympics, Wilkinson was part of the Osborne Swimming Club team representing Great Britain. They defeated Pupilles de Neptune de Lille #2 in the final to secure the gold medal.
At the 1908 London Olympics, Wilkinson again represented Great Britain and was instrumental in the team's victory. They won gold after defeating Belgium in the final.
Wilkinson's third Olympic gold medal came at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. The British team, with Wilkinson still a central figure, beat Austria in the final.
Wilkinson is considered one of the most successful water polo players in Olympic history, with his three gold medals a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.
