Martin Flannery (British politician)
Martin Flannery (2 March 1918 – 21 October 2006) was a British Labour Party politician.
Flannery was born in Ireland. He was a teacher before entering politics, working in Sheffield for many years. He was a committed socialist and active in the National Union of Teachers.
He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sheffield Hillsborough from 1974 to 1992. He gained the seat from the Conservative Party in the February 1974 general election and held it through four subsequent elections.
During his time in Parliament, Flannery was known for his strong left-wing views and his outspoken support for socialist policies. He was a prominent member of the Campaign Group of Labour MPs. He was particularly interested in education and Ireland.
After retiring from Parliament in 1992, Flannery remained active in local politics and continued to advocate for socialist causes. He died in Sheffield in 2006.
