Amelia (novel)

Amelia is a novel written by Henry Fielding, published in December 1751. It is Fielding's fourth and final novel, following Joseph Andrews, Jonathan Wild, and Tom Jones.

The novel tells the story of Amelia Booth and her husband, Captain William Booth, focusing on their struggles with poverty, infidelity, and the corrupting influences of London society. Amelia is portrayed as a virtuous and beautiful woman who endures numerous hardships, demonstrating her resilience and strength of character. William, despite his love for Amelia, is depicted as flawed, prone to gambling and easily swayed by temptation.

The plot revolves around William's financial difficulties, stemming largely from his gambling debts and legal troubles.
