Lars Kagg

Lars Kagg (1595 – 1661) was a Swedish Count, Field Marshal, and Governor-General during the reigns of Kings Gustavus Adolphus and Queen Christina. He played a significant role in the Thirty Years' War and other conflicts of the period.

Kagg began his military career early, participating in campaigns in Livonia and Russia. His demonstrated aptitude for command led to rapid advancement. He served with distinction under Gustavus Adolphus, particularly during the Polish-Swedish War of 1621-1629 and subsequently in the Thirty Years' War. Kagg was known for his tactical skill, courage, and effectiveness as a military leader.

Following Gustavus Adolphus's death in 1632, Kagg continued to serve Sweden under the regency government and Queen Christina. He held several important military and administrative positions, including Field Marshal and Governor-General of various territories. He was involved in the closing stages of the Thirty Years' War and later in conflicts against Denmark.

Kagg belonged to the prominent Kagg family, which held considerable influence in Swedish politics and military affairs for generations. He was ennobled as a Count in recognition of his services. His contributions were instrumental in consolidating Sweden's position as a major power in Northern Europe during the 17th century.
