Upselling
Upselling is a sales technique where a seller induces the customer to purchase more expensive, upgraded, or premium versions of the item they are considering. It aims to increase the value of the sale by offering enhancements or features that the customer may not have initially considered but that provide perceived added benefit.
Upselling differs from cross-selling, which involves recommending complementary or related products. Upselling focuses on upgrading the original product itself, while cross-selling introduces new, relevant items.
Effective upselling typically involves highlighting the advantages of the higher-end option, such as increased performance, added functionality, or enhanced durability. It is often used in conjunction with discounts or bundled offers to make the upgrade more attractive. Successful upselling requires understanding the customer's needs and offering relevant improvements that justify the higher price. Poorly executed upselling can be perceived as pushy or manipulative and can damage the customer relationship.
