Gatting
Gatting is a term primarily associated with cricket, specifically referring to a batsman who attempts to hit a ball with minimal movement of the feet, often resulting in an awkward or uncontrolled shot. The batsman is said to be "gatting around" or "gatting it" if they are repeatedly playing in this manner. It implies a lack of proper footwork and balance at the crease. The shot played can often be characterized by an uncontrolled swing, potentially leading to edges, mistimed shots, or being bowled.
While the term isn't a formal, technically defined cricketing term, it's commonly used in commentary and informal discussions about the game to describe a batsman's flawed technique and lack of proper foot positioning. There is no formal 'gatting' stroke taught in cricket coaching. It is almost always meant as a criticism of a player's approach at the wicket.
