Jacob Brown (Texas soldier)
Jacob Brown was a soldier in the Texas Army during the Texas Revolution. He is best known for his participation in the Battle of the Alamo in 1836, where he died defending the fort against the Mexican Army under General Antonio López de Santa Anna.
Very little is known about Brown's life prior to his arrival in Texas. Records suggest he may have been from Gonzales, Texas, and he was likely a recent volunteer to the Texan cause. He entered the Alamo with Captain William B. Travis's company and remained until the final assault on March 6, 1836. Like all other defenders, he perished in the battle. His name is inscribed on the Alamo Cenotaph, a monument commemorating the defenders of the Alamo, in San Antonio, Texas. Brown is considered a hero of the Texas Revolution for his sacrifice.
