Cytosis (board game)
Cytosis is a worker placement board game designed by John Coveyou and published by Genius Games. The game, themed around cellular biology, challenges players to manage resources and perform actions within a cell to score points. Players take on the role of cellular biologists working to complete research, manufacture hormones, and detoxify the cell.
The core gameplay involves placing workers on various locations within the cell diagram on the game board. These locations represent organelles like the ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and cell membrane. Each location allows players to perform specific actions, such as collecting mRNA, proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids (the game's primary resources). These resources are then used to complete Goal cards, which depict cellular processes or molecules and award victory points.
A key mechanic of Cytosis is the concept of "transportation" within the cell. Some locations require players to spend an action moving resources or their workers between organelles, adding a strategic layer to resource management. Additionally, the game incorporates elements of "toxicity" which players must manage to avoid penalties.
Cytosis is typically played with 1-5 players and has a playtime of approximately 60-90 minutes. The game aims to be educational as well as entertaining, teaching players about cellular biology concepts in an engaging and interactive way.
