The Innocent (1938 film)
The Innocent is a 1938 British thriller film directed by Wendy Toye. It stars Griffith Jones, Lorraine Michael, and Barbara Everest. The film is based on the play "A Murder Has Been Arranged" by Emlyn Williams.
The plot revolves around a young man, Alan Drayton (Griffith Jones), who believes he will inherit a large fortune on his 25th birthday. He receives a warning that someone is plotting to kill him before he reaches that age. He travels to a remote mansion where the alleged murder plot is supposed to take place, only to find himself embroiled in a web of suspicion and intrigue. He must uncover the identity of the would-be killer and survive the night to claim his inheritance. The film blends elements of mystery, suspense, and psychological thriller. The title refers to the protagonist's apparent naivete and lack of experience in dealing with the dangerous situation he finds himself in.
