Siquijor

Siquijor is an island province in the Philippines located in the Central Visayas region. It is the third smallest province in the country, both in land area and population. The island is situated southeast of Negros Island and southwest of Bohol. Larena is the provincial capital.

Historically, Siquijor was known as Isla de Fuego ("Island of Fire") by the Spanish, due to the glow produced by the large swarms of fireflies that congregated in the numerous molave trees on the island.

Siquijor is known for its mystical traditions, particularly its reputation for witchcraft and healing practices. While these traditions persist, the island is increasingly recognized for its natural beauty, including pristine beaches, waterfalls, caves, and hiking trails. Tourism is a significant part of the island's economy.

The primary language spoken on Siquijor is Cebuano. The island is composed of six municipalities: Enrique Villanueva, Larena, Lazi, Maria, San Juan, and Siquijor (the municipality).

Siquijor is accessible by ferry from Dumaguete, Bohol, and Cebu. The island also has a small airport.
