Union of Young Fascists – Vanguard (girls)
The Union of Young Fascists – Vanguard (girls) was a youth organization for girls in Fascist Italy, specifically the junior branch of the Gioventù Italiana del Littorio (GIL), the unified youth movement of the National Fascist Party. It catered to girls aged 8 to 14.
The organization's purpose was to indoctrinate young girls with Fascist ideology, teaching them the virtues of obedience, discipline, and physical fitness, as well as preparing them for their future roles as wives and mothers in Fascist society. Activities included physical training, singing patriotic songs, learning about Italian history and culture from a Fascist perspective, and participating in various propaganda events. The curriculum emphasized traditional gender roles, highlighting domestic skills and subservience to men, albeit within a framework of Fascist nationalism. Uniforms were a key element, promoting conformity and a sense of belonging to the larger Fascist project. The Union of Young Fascists – Vanguard (girls) dissolved along with the Fascist regime at the end of World War II.
