WWE Day 1 (2022)
WWE Day 1 (2022) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view and livestreaming event produced by WWE. It took place on January 1, 2022, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The event featured wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown brand divisions.
The event was WWE's first-ever pay-per-view held on New Year's Day. The card featured several high-profile matches, including a scheduled WWE Championship match between Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Bobby Lashley, and Brock Lesnar. However, due to Roman Reigns testing positive for COVID-19, his scheduled Universal Championship defense against Brock Lesnar was cancelled, and Lesnar was instead added to the WWE Championship match, which he subsequently won.
Other notable matches included Edge defeating The Miz, and Becky Lynch retaining the Raw Women's Championship against Liv Morgan. The Usos also retained the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The New Day.
The event was generally well-received by critics, with the impromptu WWE Championship match being particularly praised. However, some criticized the handling of Roman Reigns' absence and the late change to the main event. WWE Day 1 was succeeded by the Royal Rumble in late January.
