Cranford (TV series)
Cranford is a British television drama series that aired on BBC One. It is an adaptation of three novellas by Elizabeth Gaskell: Cranford (1851–53), My Lady Ludlow (1858), and Mr. Harrison's Confessions (1851). The first series, consisting of five episodes, was broadcast in November and December 2007. A two-part Christmas special, titled Return to Cranford, aired in December 2009.
The series is set in the 1840s in the fictional Cheshire village of Cranford, focusing on the lives of its predominantly female residents. The arrival of Captain Brown and the burgeoning railway brings about societal changes and challenges the established order and customs of the town. The series explores themes of social class, economic hardship, romance, gossip, and the anxieties surrounding modernization in a rural community.
