Gold (1974 film)

Gold is a 1974 British thriller film directed by Peter R. Hunt and starring Roger Moore, Susannah York, and Ray Milland. It is based on the 1970 novel Gold Mine by Wilbur Smith.

The film follows Rod Slater (Roger Moore), an experienced mine manager who is brought in to oversee operations at the Sonderditch gold mine in South Africa. He discovers evidence of a conspiracy to flood one section of the mine, an act engineered by corrupt businessmen and managers to inflate the price of gold by creating an artificial scarcity.

Slater investigates the conspiracy, facing danger and sabotage at every turn. He also becomes romantically involved with Terry Steyner (Susannah York), a woman who is also entangled in the machinations surrounding the mine.

The film is notable for its action sequences, particularly the flooding of the mine, and its exploration of themes of greed, corruption, and environmental damage. It showcases the dangerous conditions and the human cost associated with gold mining.
