43rd Battalion (Cameron Highlanders of Canada), CEF

The 43rd Battalion (Cameron Highlanders of Canada), CEF, was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War. Authorized on 7 November 1914 and embarked for Great Britain on 23 February 1915, the battalion served in France and Belgium as part of the 9th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division, until the end of the war.

The battalion was recruited primarily in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the surrounding areas. Its perpetuation is currently assigned to The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada.

Notable engagements in which the 43rd Battalion participated include the Battle of the Somme, the Battle of Vimy Ridge, the Battle of Passchendaele, and the Hundred Days Offensive. The battalion was known for its distinctive kilted uniforms and its strong esprit de corps.

Following the Armistice, the battalion was disbanded in 1920. Its battle honours are perpetuated by its successor regiment.
