Bévilard

Bévilard is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern, Switzerland.

Geography

Bévilard is located in the valley of the Gabiare, a tributary of the Birs. The municipality is situated between the towns of Moutier and Biel/Bienne. The landscape is characterised by rolling hills and forests, typical of the Jura region.

History

The village has a long history, with evidence of settlement dating back to Roman times. Bévilard was historically part of the seigniory of Erguel, which was later absorbed into the Prince-Bishopric of Basel. During the French Revolution, Bévilard was briefly part of France. In 1815, it became part of the canton of Bern.
