Lucius Valerius Flaccus (consul 131 BC)

Lucius Valerius Flaccus was a Roman politician and general who served as consul in 131 BC. He belonged to the patrician Valerii Flacci family, a branch of the larger Valeria gens.

While little is known about his early life and career, his consulship is notable. He shared the consulship with Publius Licinius Crassus Dives Mucianus. A significant event during their term was conflict regarding the enrollment of soldiers. A tribune of the plebs attempted to imprison both consuls when they resisted his efforts to circumvent standard procedures in raising troops for a war, likely pertaining to the ongoing Numantine War in Hispania. Crassus Mucianus, being a skilled orator and lawyer, successfully defended both himself and Flaccus, preventing their imprisonment and maintaining consular authority.

His subsequent career remains largely obscure. He is sometimes confused with other Lucii Valerii Flacci from the same era, which makes distinguishing his specific actions beyond his consulship difficult.
