Thomas Bennett (Canadian politician)

Thomas Bennett (born c. 1835, died 1912) was a Canadian politician. He represented Simcoe East in the House of Commons of Canada from 1878 to 1882 as a Liberal-Conservative member.

Bennett was born in Ireland and came to Canada in 1847. He was a businessman and lumber merchant based in Midland, Ontario. He served as reeve of Midland for several years before entering federal politics.

In the 1878 federal election, Bennett defeated incumbent Liberal MP Hector Cameron. He served one term in Parliament but was defeated by Cameron in the 1882 election.

Beyond his political career, Bennett remained active in the lumber industry and local affairs in Midland. He died in 1912 and is buried in Midland.
