MC Shan

MC Shan (born Shawn Moltke, September 9, 1965) is an American rapper from Queensbridge, New York. He is best known for his association with Marley Marl and the Juice Crew, and his role in the "Bridge Wars" feud with Boogie Down Productions.

MC Shan rose to prominence in the mid-1980s with singles like "The Bridge" (1985), produced by Marley Marl. This song, with its refrain "You Love New York?" sparked a controversy with Boogie Down Productions (KRS-One and Scott La Rock), who interpreted the song as claiming Queensbridge was the origin of hip hop. This led to a series of diss tracks and the infamous "Bridge Wars," a notable rivalry in hip hop history.

Despite the controversy, MC Shan continued to release music, including the albums Down by Law (1987) and Born to Be Wild (1988). He also contributed to the soundtrack of the film Colors (1988). While he didn't achieve mainstream commercial success on the level of some of his contemporaries, MC Shan remains a significant figure in the history of hip hop, particularly for his role in the East Coast scene and the "Bridge Wars." He has also worked as a producer and songwriter for other artists.
