The Basin (Rottnest Island)

The Basin is a shallow, sheltered bay located on the western side of Rottnest Island, Western Australia. It's a popular spot for swimming, snorkelling, and stand-up paddleboarding due to its calm, clear waters and generally protected nature from the ocean swells. The Basin's shallow depth makes it ideal for families with young children. Its relatively calm conditions are a stark contrast to the often more exposed and wave-swept beaches found elsewhere on the island. While there are no significant reefs or underwater features directly within The Basin itself, the surrounding coastline provides opportunities for exploring nearby marine life. The area is also a popular location for simply relaxing and enjoying the picturesque views of the island's landscape and surrounding ocean. Access is generally easy, with walking tracks and parking readily available.
