Sarah Archer (writer)
Sarah Archer is an American writer and curator specializing in design, craft, and material culture. She is known for her work exploring the intersection of art, design, and social history, often with a focus on overlooked or underappreciated aspects of these fields.
Archer has written extensively for publications such as The New York Times, Crafts, Eye on Design, and Hyperallergic. Her writing frequently examines the history of design movements, the cultural significance of everyday objects, and the work of contemporary artists and designers.
Archer is the author of Midcentury Christmas: Holiday Fads, Fancies, and Fun from 1945-1970 (Countryman Press, 2016) and The Newcomb Style: Renaissance, Reform, and Craft in the New Orleans Pottery (Schiffer Publishing, 2010). She has also contributed essays to numerous edited volumes and exhibition catalogs.
In addition to her writing, Archer has curated exhibitions at various museums and galleries. Her curatorial work often reflects her research interests, highlighting the historical and cultural context of design and craft objects.
Archer holds a Ph.D. in Design History from the Bard Graduate Center.
