Bob Wilson (politician)

Bob Wilson (born April 5, 1916, died August 11, 1999) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from California's 41st (later 40th) congressional district from 1953 to 1981. A Republican, Wilson was known for his strong advocacy for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, reflecting the significant military presence in his San Diego-based district.

Wilson was born in Calexico, California, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military service heavily influenced his political career and shaped his focus in Congress.

In the House of Representatives, Wilson served on the Armed Services Committee and was a vocal supporter of a strong national defense. He played a key role in securing funding for military bases and projects in San Diego, contributing to the region's economic growth.

Wilson was considered a moderate Republican, often working across party lines to achieve his legislative goals. He was generally conservative on social issues but held more moderate views on economic matters.

He retired from Congress in 1981 and returned to San Diego, where he remained active in civic affairs until his death in 1999. His legacy is marked by his dedication to his constituents, his staunch support for the military, and his long tenure in Congress representing the San Diego area.
