Robert O'Brien (artist)
Robert O'Brien (1908-1987) was an American serigraph artist, best known for his mid-century modern silkscreen prints of landscapes, architecture, and scenes of everyday life. His work is characterized by its bold colors, simplified forms, and geometric compositions, reflecting the influence of Cubism and other modern art movements.
O'Brien studied at the Art Students League of New York and later worked as a commercial artist before focusing on serigraphy in the late 1930s. He experimented with different techniques and materials to achieve unique textures and effects in his prints. His prints were often produced in limited editions, and his work was exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States.
O'Brien's subjects frequently included scenes of New York City, New England, and other locations he visited. He captured the essence of these places with a distinctive style that combined realism with abstraction. His works are sought after by collectors of mid-century modern art and design. His legacy lies in his contribution to the development of serigraphy as a fine art medium and his ability to capture the spirit of the American landscape and urban environment in his prints.
