Nabatieh

Nabatieh (Arabic: النبطية‎, an-Nabaṭiyyah), also spelled Nabatiyeh, Nabbatiyeh, or Naba'tiye, is the city and capital of the Nabatieh Governorate in Southern Lebanon. Located approximately 63 kilometers (39 mi) south of Beirut, it is an important urban center in the Jabal Amel area.

Nabatieh is known for its vibrant Monday market ("Souk al-Tanen"), a traditional open-air market where local produce, crafts, and goods are sold. The city has a rich history, having been inhabited for centuries, with archaeological evidence suggesting its importance during the Phoenician, Roman, and Crusader periods.

Modern Nabatieh is a commercial and educational hub, with several schools, colleges, and universities. The city has experienced significant development in recent decades but retains its distinct character and traditions. Its population is predominantly Shia Muslim. The city has been impacted by regional conflicts, particularly those with Israel, due to its proximity to the border. Nevertheless, Nabatieh continues to be a vital center for southern Lebanon.
