David Drew (dancer)

David Drew (born 1927, died 2009), more widely known as David Wall, was a British ballet dancer, choreographer, and teacher. He is primarily remembered for his career as a principal dancer with The Royal Ballet, where he excelled in both classical and dramatic roles.

Wall trained at the Royal Ballet School and joined the company in 1944. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a principal dancer in 1948. His powerful technique, charisma, and versatility made him a favorite of audiences and choreographers alike.

He danced leading roles in a wide range of ballets, including Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, and Manon. He also created roles in ballets by Frederick Ashton, Kenneth MacMillan, and John Cranko.

Beyond his performing career, Wall was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Royal Ballet School and the Royal Academy of Dance, and he also served as a guest teacher at companies around the world. He passed on his knowledge and experience to generations of dancers.

David Wall was married to fellow Royal Ballet principal dancer Monica Mason.
